Safe Abbreviation Campaign

The Pharmacy Departments in the Annapolis Valley District Health Authority promote and maintain the health and well being of the population they serve through the provision of a safe, effective and efficient pharmacy service. Pharmacy is an active member of the multidisciplinary team and along with other health care professionals achieves positive patient outcomes.

Pharmacy Departments are located at the Valley Regional Hospital (Kentville, NS) and Soldiers Memorial Hospital (Middleton, NS).  Staffing resources include, a district pharmacy manager, three (3) staff pharmacists and 5.7 pharmacy technicians at the Valley Regional Hospital site and one full time pharmacist and pharmacy technician at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Some of the specialized services include:

  • Sterile Product Preparation
  • Chemotherapy Preparation
  • Central Intravenous Admixture Program
  • Clinical Pharmacy Services

Procedures Performed and Supported by Pharmacy:

  • Drug distribution to nursing units and community health centers
  • Individual patient prescriptions for inpatient units, mental health outpatients and Continuing Care NS patients
  • Provide continuous drug monitoring for all patients
  • Provide Drug Information services to patients and health care providers both in the hospital and community settings
  • Provide 24 hour standby and callback service
  • Participate in the education of other health care providers and student pharmacist practical training programs
  • Provide patient discharge teaching
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings

Monday – Friday   8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sat, Sun & Holidays - 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
24 hour pharmacist on-call service provided

Soldiers Memorial Hospital
Monday – Friday
8:00 am to 4:00 pm
